Joanne’s Music Studio offers everyone ages 4-adult the unique opportunity to become well-rounded musicians. Music is a wonderful gift that is an important asset to forming a well-rounded education in life. If you are looking for excellent music instruction that will encourage the student to comprehend and appreciate the art of music, or if you’re just looking for a way to diminish stress in your life, this is the place to do it! Joanne offers instruction in piano and voice.

Joanne Bump holds a Bachelor of Music in Piano Pedagogy from the Master’s College in Santa Clarita, CA, accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. She taught individual piano lessons and piano group classes for three years in Santa Clarita before moving to La Grande in 2011 to begin her music studio. She has studied many music curriculums and has come up with her own unique approach to teaching piano and voice. She is a member of a number of professional organizations, including the Music Teachers National Association, Oregon Music Teachers Association, and American Choral Directors Association. Joanne is appreciated for her organization, creative approach to curriculum, enthusiasm for teaching, and her ability to give students a well-rounded music education.

The music studio year is Sept. through May, with summer lessons offered flexibly from June through Aug. Lesson times are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Joanne’s Music Studio is located at 1114 Y Ave., inside the gym building at Grace Bible Church (in the room next to the outside doors between the two buildings).

The Maridell Center is a community center that focuses on wholesome family entertainment and loves to host community events. We have a game room with pool tables, ping pong, foosball, air hockey, arcade games, and a snack bar. Pirate-themed laser tag is available with both regular and shocking guns! We host the Night Fright Haunted House, which is a huge event that happened every October. Coming this summer will be a Wild West indoor mini golf, currently under construction. What has become especially popular lately are the Birthday Party Packages, which include use of the game room, laser tag, soda, and pizza. We have two great rental spaces to host events, a large banquet hall that can seat up to 320 with a dance floor and disco lights, as well as our smaller party room that can seat up to 40. There is also a full commercial kitchen available. Exercise instructors regularly use our banquet hall and party room for yoga, Zumba, and kickboxing classes. The Maridell Center loves to support the community and often hosts a swing dance night as a fundraiser for the LHS Jazz Band, as well as other fundraising events. Also, Country Swing Thursday, a western swing dance class, just started in April. We love to continue creating new ideas and events to give La Grande more fun things to do.

The Maridell Center building, formerly known as the Elk’s Lodge, was purchased by Jay and Jeri Mackley in 2010. Since that time, renovations have been on-going to help make the building a vibrant community center. Jeri Mackley, who is the general manager of the business, is the creator of the Night Fright Haunted House formerly held in Union. She found a lack in the community for family fun and decided to fill the need by expanding beyond the October event to offer year-round activities and entertainment. The Mackley’s, who moved back to La Grande in 1997, have five grown children who have helped build the business at different times. Currently, their daughter Lisa serves as assistant manager while completing her college degree. Much of the design and painting of the elaborately themed laser tag arena was done by her. Their sons, Allen and Michael, have also worked in the business in designing, constructing, and acting in the haunted house.

The Maridell Center is located at 1124 Washington Ave., next to the post office. Regular open hours are Tues. through Sat., 3-9 p.m., and other times by appointment or reservation. There are early morning, mid-day, and evening exercise classes so see our website, www.maridellcenter.com, for a complete schedule.
